Srinagar/UNI: Alert troops on Friday foiled an infiltration bid by militants along the Line of Control (LoC) in Keran sector in north Kashmir district of Kupwara, a Defence Ministry spokesperson said.

Colonel Rajesh Kalia told UNI that suspicious movement was observed by troops at the forward posts along the LoC in Keran Sector today.

“The suspected infiltration bid was foiled by alert troops,” he said.

He said the infiltration bid was accompanied by initiation of an unprovoked ceasefire violation by Pakistan along the LoC in Keran sector. “Befitting response is being given,” he said.

He said ceasefire violation spread to larger areas from Keran sector in Kupwara to Uri sector in Baramulla. “This was the second infiltration attempt within a week,” he said.

Col Kalia said that earlier an unsuccessful infiltration bid in Machil sector in Kupwara on November 8, was foiled, in which three militants were eliminated. Four security force personnel, including an Army officer, a BSF constable and two soldiers, were also killed in the operation.

“India Army is well poised to defeat all attempts by Pakistan to infiltrate militants into J&K,” the defence ministry spokesperson added.
