Official sources said that panic gripped village Gohallan in Uri when a gunshot was heard near an Army post late on Thursday night. “The soldiers deployed in the area rushed to the spot from where the gunshot was heard where they found a jawan lying in a pool of blood,” they said.

They said the jawan was immediately taken to a hospital where he was declared brought dead. “Initial investigation revile that the jawan, identified as Rakshit Kumar, a resident of Samba in Jammu, shot himself with his service rifle,” they said.

They said that it was not immediately clear why he took this extreme step, adding police has registered a case and initiated investigation to ascertain the circumstances which forced him to commit suicide.
