Jammu and Kashmir: Police rescue abducted girl, arrest accused

Srinagar: Police on Monday claimed to have rescued an abducted minor girl within hours of her kidnap and arrested the accused in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district.

Police Station Rajpora received a written application on January 29 from one Bashir Ahmad Jahara, a resident of Sonabanjer Khaigam stating that her daughter (name withheld) age about 15 years was kidnapped by three accused persons.

Police said regarding this a special Police team was constituted to trace out the kidnapped girl and during the course of investigation, the Police team acted swiftly and raided various suspected locations.

After strenuous efforts the Police Party traced out the abducted girl and recovered her from village Hergam Keller area of Shopian in south Kashmir.

The kidnappers were identified as Sajad Ahmad Awan, Javaid Ahmad Awan and Sharief Ahmad Awan, all residents of Pahlipora Keller.

A case under relevant sections of law was registered in Police Station Rajpora and investigation was set into motion.

The abductee girl was handed over to her legal heirs after fulfilling all medico legal formalities, police added.
