Jammu and Kashmir: SIA official arrests three in narco terror case

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Police’s Special Investigation Agency have arrested three persons, including a lady, during the investigation of a narco terror case in the UT.

The arrests were made on Tuesday by SIA Kashmir which conducted searches at multiple locations across the valley in a narco terror-related case.

The police said the searches were conducted at the premises of four narco terror suspects in Anantnag, Pulwama, Budgam and Baramulla districts of Kashmir.

The agency said the residential premises of Abdul Rashid Bhat of Padgampora, Awantipora, Danish Farooq of Nasrullapora, Budgam, Abdul Rashid Mir of Amargrah, Sopore and Ovais Gul Bhat of Hardu Akad Anantnag were searched in compliance to search warrant obtained from the Court of Special Judge, designated under NIA Act (TADA/POTA) Srinagar.

The investigation of the case by the SIA has so far unearthed a narco- terror module was being operated by militant organizations across the border in coordination with handlers based in Central Jail Srinagar.

“Investigations established so far that the syndicate had succeeded in smuggling around 24 kilograms of narcotics worth crores of rupees from Pakistan, transported it to different places through human couriers, sold it to dealers at different places, collected the sale proceeds, and used a large portion of the proceeds for prohibited activities for supporting and nurturing terror activities,” the SIA said.

“The narcotics proceeds were used for personal financial enrichment of member of the syndicate besides, huge narcotic proceeds were channelized to support and finance terror activities in the valley,” it added.

The SIA said three members of the syndicate including a lady have so far been arrested, during the investigation of the case.

“Further investigation in the case is continuing,” the SIA said.
