Jammu and Kashmir: Truck conductor killed, driver injured in snow avalanche on Ladakh highway

Srinagar/UNI: A truck conductor was killed and a driver was injured in a snow avalanche on Srinagar-Leh national highway, official sources said here on Tuesday.

They said a mini-truck, which was carrying essential commodities to the Union Territory of Ladakh, was hit by a snow avalanche on Monday evening in Drass.

"The driver and conductor of the truck were buried alive under several feet of snow," they said, adding a search and rescue operation was immediately launched.

The driver of the truck was rescued while the body of the conductor, identified as Tawseef Ahmad Mir, was recovered under several feet of snow.

“After completing all the legal and medical formalities, the body of the deceased was handed over to his relatives for last rites,” they added.
