Japan starts issuing eVisas to Indian travellers

New Delhi: Indians planning to travel to Japan will no longer need physical visa stickers on their passports, media reports said.

Japan has started issuing eVisas for Indian tourists, a long-awaited program facilitated through Japan Visa Application Centers managed by VFS Global, the Economic Times reported.

This eVisa program offers a single-entry short-term visa tailored specifically for tourism, allowing a stay of up to 90 days in Japan.

Both Indian citizens and foreign nationals residing in India can apply for this electronic visa, the report said.

Under the new system, applicants will submit their applications to Visa Application Centers managed by VFS Global, as in the previous process, according to the report.

However, instead of receiving a traditional visa sticker, successful applicants will receive an electronic visa.

Travellers have to present a "visa issuance notice" on their mobile phones upon arrival at the airport. It's crucial to have internet access for this step.

Any other format aside from a digital visa issuance notice, such as a PDF, photo, screenshot, or printed copy, will not be accepted.
