J&K: Militant killed by security forces in Kulgam encounter

Srinagar/UNI: An unidentified militant was killed by security forces in an encounter in the south Kashmir district of Kulgam, police said.

A Cordoned and Search Operation (CASO) was launched by the Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police, CRPF and Rashtriya Rifles (RR) at village Munand Kulgam early in the morning following specific information about the presence of militants.

However, when the security forces were moving towards a particular area after sealing all exit points, militants hiding there opened fire, he said.

The fire was returned following an encounter, he said, adding an unidentified militant was killed.

The operation was still going on when the reports last came in, he said adding additional security forces have been deployed in the adjoining areas to prevent any law and order problem.
