Jodhpur horror: Two sisters end their lives after alleged years of assault and police inaction
A woman in rural Jodhpur allegedly died by suicide in March 2026 after years of gang-rape, blackmail, and extortion, according to a complaint filed by her younger sister.
The complaint states that the victim was allegedly trapped by an e-Mitra operator who recorded obscene videos of her and used them for coercion, along with multiple other accused named in the FIR.
The family alleges that despite repeated complaints, police action was slow and ineffective.
Younger sister also dies after seeking justice and facing continued threats
Nearly two months later, the younger sister also died by suicide after allegedly facing continued harassment and threats from the same accused.
She had reportedly warned authorities that she would take her life if justice was not delivered.
According to the complaint, even after the FIR was registered, the accused allegedly continued intimidation and threats, including claims that law enforcement would not act against them.
Protests erupt as family and community allege police negligence
The second death triggered widespread anger in the region, with protests outside MDM Hospital in Jodhpur and demands for immediate arrests and accountability.
Community leaders and the victim’s family have accused police of negligence and failure to protect the victims despite repeated complaints.
Police have said a departmental inquiry will be conducted into the handling of the case, while further investigation into the accused is underway.
