JP Nadda meets protesters, urges end to sit-in after talks amid 'Chalo Sansad' demonstrations

Union Minister JP Nadda on Monday met representatives of protesters in New Delhi and urged them to call off their ongoing sit-in and cooperate with the administration in restoring normalcy.

Sharing images of his meeting with members of the satirical political group Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), which is spearheading the protest in the national capital, Nadda wrote on X: "This morning, for the first time, a proposal came from the protesters to hold talks with the government, and our discussions have been ongoing since 11:50 AM."

He said the meeting was held in a cordial atmosphere.

"An initial verbal discussion was held in detail with their delegation, and they submitted a written petition to me around 4 PM," Nadda said.

Following his meeting with CJP members Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka, the minister added: "I have requested all the protesters to end their sit-in and assist the administration in restoring normalcy."

Das also confirmed the meeting in a post on X, writing: "@AshutoshRanka and I have been at J.P. Nadda's residence since 12 noon."

He said the delegation demanded the immediate removal or dismissal of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.

"The Minister assured us he will discuss this at the appropriate level. However, no commitments have been made so far. The peaceful protesters will not rest until the demand is met," Das wrote.

In a separate post on X, Ranka said the protesters' key demands include the immediate release of activist Sonam Wangchuk, the resignation of Dharmendra Pradhan, and ₹1 crore in compensation for the families of NEET aspirants who allegedly died by suicide.

Earlier in the day, a large number of protesters gathered at Jantar Mantar before attempting to march towards Parliament under the banner of 'Chalo Sansad'.

Police stopped the march near Parliament Street using multiple layers of barricades.

Protesters alleged that police resorted to a lathi charge, fired tear gas shells, and carried out mass detentions after they refused to disperse. Authorities had tightened security across central Delhi as the Monsoon Session of Parliament commenced on Monday.

Police have not yet publicly responded to the protesters' allegations in the statement above.
