Justice delayed, not denied: DMK
Main opposition party, M Karunanidhi’s DMK is elated with the verdict. Its leader TKS Elangovan commented justice delayed not denied.
He said, “Even though justice is delayed, it's not denied. They were accusing the DMK of filing false charges against Jayalalithaa. Now, we stand vindicated.”
Tamil Nadu Congress Committee President B S Gnanadesikan appealed that violence should be eschewed and urged the State police to uphold law and order.
"The police have a duty to protect the law and order and I believe that police will do their duty," he said in a statement here.
Stating that violent incidents would affect the common people, Gnanadesikan said "violence should be eschewed."
Commenting on the verdict against Jayalalithaa he said, "There should not be criticism of the verdict."
Welcoming the verdict, PMK founder leader Dr S Ramadoss said police should take steps to ensure that the law and order is protected and violence should be checked. It showed that justice had prevailed, he said in a statement here.
MDMK leader Vaiko said the judgement has reaffirmed the supremacy of judiciary.
Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh chose to keep mum on the issue.
When asked by media about his reactions on the issue, he refused to comment. "I will not comment on it as I have not seen the judgement," he told media persons.
But, his party colleague and the person behind Jayalalithaa’s conviction, BJP leader Subramanian Swamy was elated.
He said, “I feel vindicated... I had started this fight against corruption and I am continuing this fight on 2G. I am happy that efforts are bearing fruit and I will continue to fight corruption. I had raised the issue of coal allocations as well.” He added, “It is a confirmation that everyone is equal before the law. Certainly the verdict will have implications on the politics in Tamil Nadu.”
Commenting on the actor-politician’s future, Swamy said that she cannot recover from this loss of credibility.
“I am not sure how AIADMK will consolidate going forward. I feel that some people may move away to other parties and AIADMK may soon be relegated to the sidelines or may wither away,” he said.
It is noteworthy to mention that, it is Swamy who filed the DA case against Tamil Nadu CM in 1996.
