Mangaluru/IBNS: A man was stabbed to death by some masked attackers in Karnataka's Mangaluru Thursday evening, amid the simmering tension in the state over the killing of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)'s youth wing leader Praveen Nettaru, media reports said.

Fazil, 23, was talking to an acquaintance outside a clothing store when some men stepped out of the car and ran towards him, police said.

CCTV cameras showed the men, whose faces were covered with black cloth masks, hit Fazil and stabbed him repeatedly.

Large gatherings were imposed in Suratkal and its adjoining areas after the incident.

"It is a highly sensitive area. Therefore, prohibitory orders under Section 144 have been clamped in Suratkal and three adjoining police station limits, Mulky, Panambur, Bajpe PS Limits," Shashi Kumar, Mangaluru Police chief said as quoted by NDTV.

The reason behind the attack is yet unknown.

The accused are at large.
