Kashmir: Army jawan killed in Pak firing along LoC in Rajouri

Jammu/UNI: An Army jawan was killed in a cross border firing along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir on Monday.

Defence spokesman Lt Colonel Devendra Anand here said that Pakistan Army resorted to unprovoked ceasefire violation along the LoC in the Nowshera Sector of Rajouri.

"Own troops responded strongly to the enemy fire and in the incident, Havildar Dipak Karki was critically injured and later succumbed to his injuries," he said.

The spokesman said that Havildar Dipak Karki was a brave, highly motivated and a sincere soldier.

"The nation will always remain indebted to him for his supreme sacrifice and devotion to duty," he added.

Earlier, he said that about 0330 hours during wee hours, Pakistan initiated an unprovoked ceasefire violation by firing with small arms and shelling mortars along LoC in Krishna Ghati Sector, District Poonch.

Later at 0530 hours, Pakistan again initiated unprovoked ceasefire violation in Nowshera Sector of District Rajouri.

"Indian Army is retaliating befittingly to cross border firing," he said.
