Srinagar/UNI: Three band saw mills and a plastic furniture unit were gutted in a major fire incident on the outskirts of Srinagar during the wee hours of Friday, officials said.

There was no loss of life or injury to any person during the firefighting operation.

Fire and Emergency Service officials said the fire incident took place in the HMT Zainakote area, and the cause of the fire is being ascertained.

They said the band saw mills and a plastic furniture unit suffered massive damage in the fire incident, causing extensive damage to the property.

They said the fire tenders were rushed to the spot around 5.5 a.m. in the morning, soon after the information about the incident was received. However, by that time, the fire had engulfed a major portion of these units.

“By the time we were informed, the fire had spread in the units, causing extensive damage to the property," the Fire and Emergency Service said, adding that “more than 60 percent of the damage has been caused to the units in the fire incident.”.

They said 12 fire-fighting engines were rushed from various city centers to the spot to douse the flames.

In yet another fire incident, a residential house was also damaged at Usmania Colony Buchpora in downtown Srinagar, causing damage to the attic and the upper story of the house, they said.
