Kashmir: Three people, including teenage girl, killed in Army firing
Srinagar, Jul 7 (IBNS): Three people, including a teenage girl, were killed when security forces opened fire at stone-throwing protesters in south Kashmir's Kulgam district on Saturday, media reports said.
According to reports, the firing took place when an Army patrol party came under attack after it came face-to-face with protesters in Hawoora area of Khudwani. The mob hurled stones at the Army people resulting in the retaliatory firing.
“Three civilians died in the clashes and three others suffered firearm injuries,” The Hindu quoted a police official as saying.
Those killed have been identified as Shakir Ahmad, 22, Irshad Majid, 20 and 16-year-old Andleeb - all residents of Hawoora in Kulgam.
The incident took place the day separatists observed a Valley-wide shutdown to protest the NIA taking over the custody of Dukhtaran-e-Milat chief Asiya Andrabi and her two aides. The separatists allege she is being “framed in false cases.”
The shutdown affected normal life in the valley. Most markets, offices and educational institutes remained closed. Authorities have detained all top separatist leaders, including Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Yasin Malik.
