Kejriwal cries foul against EVMs in Punjab

| | Mar 15, 2017, at 09:53 pm
New Delhi, Mar 15 (IBNS) : After BSP chief Mayawati's allegation of EVM tampering in Uttar Pradesh, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday cried a foul play in Punjab, claiming that 20 to 25 per cent of AAP votes were transferred to the ruling Akali-BJP coalition, reports said.

Kejriwal alleged that the  number of votes polled by his party were even  far less in some areas than the number of AAP volunteers.

"How did the Akalis get 30 per cent vote share when an AAP sweep was a foregone conclusion? No one said Congress will perform so well and it got a two-third majority. What then went wrong ? We suspect that 20-25 per cent of AAP votes may have been transferred to SAD-BJP through EVM tampering," he told media in his first reaction after the Assembly election results were declared.

"It is about the credibility of the Election Commission and the faith of people in the electoral system. We have strong prima facie evidence of foul play," he said.

The Congress had won 77 of Punjab's 117 seats. All exit polls had predicted a hung house for Punjab - the poll of exit polls had suggested that Mr Kejriwal's Aam Aadmi Party would be neck and neck with the Congress.
