Labhpur TMC MLA rescued by police after a violent mob attacked him in relation to abduction of a daughter of BJP worker

Seuri, Feb 16 (UNI) Riot police today rescued Trinamool Congress MLA Manirul Islam from a group stone throwing irate mob, who has been protesting the alleged abduction of a daughter of a local BJP worker since Thursday evening.

The residents of Labhpur have been put up road block by burning rubber tyres on every crossing and on main roads and demonstrating in front of Labhpur police station after the 28-year-old daughter of the local BJP leader allegedly been kidnapped by three miscreants at gunpoint on Thursday.

The daughter of Suprovath Battabal, who recently joined the saffron party from state ruling TMC, has been kidnapped on gun point by 3/4 miscreants when her father was not home during the evening on Thursday.

Since then the woman, who is also a teacher, has been seen.

The local residents enraged over the incident today attacked with stones and bricks to TMC's Labhpur legislator Manirul Islam, who escaped into the police station, which also came under attacks by  the mob.

The mob also hurled stones and bricks to the riot police,  who were armed with shield and batons.

The car of the MLA was also damaged in the attack. Police said they arrested three persons for pelting stones.

Mr Islam said he was sick and was in Kolkata. But he arrived here today to asses the situation.

The MLA was still in the police station.

Police have arrested a youth in connection with the kidnapping. The woman was yet to be rescued. She had completed MA in English an is presently pursuing a master’s degree in education while working  as a temporary vocational teacher.

It was alleged that at around 8pm on Thursday evening, three men came on motorbikes, entered the BJP worker’s house and held all five family members at gunpoint and kidnapped her.

“They took all our mobile phones and held us at gunpoint. Then, they took away my daughter. I was not at home then. I am a BJP worker and I have requested police to rescue my daughter,” said the BJP member. His wife Rita lodged a complaint of kidnapping with the Labhpur police against unknown persons."
