Lakhimpur Kheri violence: Supreme Court cancels bail of Union Minister's son

New Delhi/IBNS: The Supreme Court on Monday cancelled the bail granted by a lower court to Union Minister Ajay Mishra's son Ashish Mishra, who is accused of killing farmers in Uttar Pradesh's Lakhimpur Kheri last year, media reports said.

Mishra has been asked to surrender within a week.

The bail was granted by the Allahabad High Court on Feb 10.

The top court said the bail was granted based on "irrelevant observations".

The families of the farmers, who were allegedly mowed down by the car of Ashish Mishra, had moved the Supreme Court challenging the bail.

The plea was filed through senior advocate Prashant Bhushan, who said the family members have been forced to approach the top court since Uttar Pradesh had failed to file an appeal against the Allahabad High Court order.
