#LokSabhaElection2019: Amethi has rejected Rahul Gandhi, says Smriti Irani

New Delhi, Mar 24 (IBNS): Amid reports that the Congress president has been asked by partymen to contest from a seat in the south, Bharatiya Janata Party leader Smriti Irani on Saturday attacked Rahul Gandhi and said Amethi, the Lok Sabha seat which he represents, has rejected him.

Gandhi is the sitting MP from Amethi.

Smriti had fought the Lok Sabha polls from the seat in 2014.

However, Gandhi had defeated her in the election.

Using the hashtag #BhaagRahulBhaag, Smriti tweeted: "Amethi has rejected him. The requests for him to contest from other seats has been staged as people have rejected him.”

The Congress president has been receiving requests from partymen in recent times to contest the Lok Sabha polls from a seat in the south.

Though he will once again contest from Amethi, the Kerala constituency of Wayanad is also being actively considered as a second seat for Rahul Gandhi to contest from, reported Hindustan Times.

“He is positive about this and a formal announcement will be made soon,” Kerala Congress committee chief Mullapally Ramachandran was quoted as saying by the newspaper.

Meanwhile, the Congress responded to Smriti Irani's tweet and said she was defeated by Gandhi in 2014 fro Amethi seat.
