Madhya Pradesh imposes weekend lockdown in urban areas to curb Covid-19 spread

Bhopal/IBNS: The Madhya Pradesh government has imposed weekend lockdown in all urban areas to flatten the curve of Covid-19 in the state, media reports said.

The restrictions will be imposed in all urban areas from 6 pm on Friday to 6 am on Monday and containment zones in big cities will be set up.

"There will be lockdown in all cities and urban areas from 6 pm on Friday till 6 pm on Saturday, Sunday and Monday. I urge you to be aware, follow the guidelines and contribute to the prevention of Coronavirus," Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said, after holding a high level meeting.

Amid massive surge in Novel Coronavirus cases across the country, Madhya Pradesh on Wednesday reported over 4,000 cases and 13 deaths due to the contagion.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will on Thursday hold a meeting with the Chief Ministers of all states and union territories over the current situation of Covid-19 in the country and the vaccination drive.

The meeting will be held via video conferencing.

In 24 hours between Wednesday and Thursday mornings, the country has reported 1,26,315 new cases taking the tally to 12,928,789.

In the same period, 685 Covid-19 patients have died taking the toll further up to 1,66,892.
