Mamata Banerjee slams BJP on 'corruption allegations' aimed at TMC: Top five quotes

| @indiablooms | Aug 30, 2022, at 02:45 am

Kolkata/IBNS: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee Monday ripped apart the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) accusing it of using the central probe agencies, Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and Enforcement Directorate (ED) in particular, in a bid to topple her Trinamool Congress (TMC) government.

In her fiery speech on the 28th Foundation Day of the students' wing of TMC, TMCP, Mamata cautiously took the name of her erstwhile minister Partha Chatterjee, who was arrested by the ED in the teachers' recruitment scam.

She has also taken names of arrested TMC leader Anubrata Mondal and others including herself accusing the BJP of political vendetta.

Anubrata has been arrested by the CBI in the cattle smuggling case.

Here we bring five top quotes of Mamata:

1. "If Partha Chatterjee has committed a crime, he will receive the punishment accordingly. Partha Chatterjee, Anubrata Mondal, Firhad Hakim, Aroop Biswas, Abhishek Banerjee, and now Mamata Banerjee – are these people thieves and only BJP is honest? This is a complete lie."

2. "I came to politics to serve the people of our nation. The Opposition, however, with the help of the media, rented leaders, and corrupt politicians, is trying to smear my image. They drag my name in every matter."

3. "Today you talk about ED and CBI. The plan is to arrest Arup Chakraborty, Moloy Ghatak, Firhad Hakim, Chandrima Bhattacharya, and Abhishek Banerjee and keep them in jail so that TMC doesn’t win. I ask them to arrest me as well. Then you will see the impact. They had thrashed me during elections as well. Even if they jail me, I will rise."

4. "Just today, someone told me that they have filed a case against me saying the assets of Mamata Banerjee and her family members have exponentially increased in the past few years. All my relatives have nuclear families, and we only celebrate festivals together. My mother was my only responsibility."

5. "In the past 12 years, I have foregone a monthly pension of Rs 1 lakh as a former parliamentarian. Even as a Chief Minister, I have given up on monthly remuneration of Rs 3.5 lakh. I pay for my tea and rarely use government vehicles. I stay at my own place, which was given to me by my father. What else do you want?"

BJP counters

Countering Mamata, BJP IT cell head Amit Malviya tweeted a trimmed video of Mamata's speech and said, "Yes, you people are corrupt."
