Manipur Governor appeals to other states to ensure safeguard of Manipuri students

Imphal/UNI: Manipur Governor Anusuiya Uikey, made an appeal on Monday to her fellow governors and administrations throughout India to safeguard the welfare of students hailing from the North Eastern state pursuing their studies across the nation.

She expressed her deep concern about the students from Manipur pursuing higher studies or professional courses in different parts of the country since the unprecedented ethnic clashes that broke out on May 3.

Uikey wrote to Governors/ Lt. Governors/Administrators to ensure the academic pursuits of those from her state were not affected or disturbed.

A Raj Bhawan statement said all the governors/ Lt. Governors/Administrators have assured that necessary arrangements have been made to ensure the safety of those students and that their academic pursuits are not affected.

On behalf of the people of Manipur, the Governor has expressed her gratitude to all the Governors/ Lt. Governors/Administrators for the invaluable cooperation extended to the students of Manipur at this critical juncture.

Governors of Tamil Nadu and Nagaland assured that the required assistance would be extended to those students in their respective states whenever the necessity arises. At present, there are 20 students from Manipur in Tamil Nadu. In Nagaland, 238 students from Manipur are pursuing their studies.

Uikey said she strongly believes that all concerned will extend help till complete normalcy is restored in Manipur.

Whenever they feel the need, these students can approach the respective Governor’s Secretariats for help, she added.
