Market share of BSNL 10.72 per cent: Indian government

New Delhi, Jun 26 (UNI) Union Communications, Electronics and IT Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad on Wednesday informed the Lok Sabha that market share of the Government-owned Telecom Service Provider(TSP) BSNL during the last three years till March this year was 10.72 per cent while another Government owned TSP MTNL's market share was 6.95 per cent.

In a written reply to a question on performance of BSNL and MTNL during question Hour in the House, Mr Prasad said that as on March 31, 2017, the BSNL market share was 9.63 per cent while MTNL market share was 7.37 per cent.

The Telecom sector is facing financial stress due to stiff competition and reduction in tariffs. The

Gross Revenue of two private operators that is Airtel and Vodafone/Idea has also come down in 2017-18 and 2018-19, it was stated in the written reply.

For BSNL and MTNL, stiff competition in mobile segment, high employee cost and absence of

4G services (expect in few places for BSNL) in the data-centric telecom market is eroding their competitive strength.
