Massive wildfire continues to blaze for the 6th day in Dzuko Valley; IAF, NDRF, fire brigade teams deployed

Imphal/IBNS: A team of National Disaster Relief Force (NDRF), firefighters and local volunteers are trying to put out a massive forest fire in Dzukou valley, spread across from Nagaland to neighbouring Manipur. Four Indian Air Force (IAF) helicopters resumed firefighting operations today, media reports said.

The firefighting operations started after the wildfire broke out on December 29. The Indian Air Force chopper has been conducting operations from Nagaland's Dimapur.

Yesterday, the IAF flew an NDRF team to the Manipur side of Dzukou Valley where at least 200 firefighters of the state fire service are on the ground to douse the forest fire.

"The NDRF has deployed 60 personnel at the wildfire site in Dzukou Valley. Also two helicopters with Bambi buckets have been deployed," Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh tweeted thanking Home Minister Amit Shah and Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh.

According to an NDTV report, Manipur's firefighters have managed to control  fire in the Dzukou Valley but fire in the southern side of the valley is yet to be put off.

Both Nagaland and Manipur officials have claimed that the wildfire has destroyed much of the pristine forest and razed the rich biodiversity of the valley, a famous trekking site, the report added.
