Militants killed 4254 civilians, 912 security men in Assam in past 24 years: Govt

Guwahati, Aug 10 (IBNS): As many 4254 civilians were killed by militants in Assam in the past 24 years, the Assam state government said on Monday.
State Agriculture Minister Rockybul Hussain said on behalf of Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi to a query in the state assembly that, from 1991 to July 2015, 912 security personnel were also killed in insurgency in the state.

“They were killed in 9382 incidents of violence by several insurgency groups in the state during the period,” Hussain said.

The Assam minister also informed that, from 2011 to July 2015, 319 civilians were killed by militants and 336 extremists were killed during anti-insurgency operation in the state.

“Security forces killed 15 militants of NDFB(S) and arrested 448 militants of the group after violence on December 23 last year,” Hussain said.

He said that, at present eight militant groups are active in the state, while 13 groups were in talks with the government.
