MK Stalin demands release of Tamilians arrested in Rajiv assassination case

Chennai, Feb 21 (UNI): DMK president MK Stalin on Thursday asked the Tamil Nadu chief minister Edappadi K Palanisamy to meet the state Governor and request him to order release of the seven Tamilians who were arrested in the former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi assassination case.

Stalin said that these people were in the prison for last 28 years.

In a press statement here, Stalin said that resolution was passed in the State Assembly in September 2018 for the release of Santhan, Murugan, Perarivalan, Robert, Payas, Jayakumar, Ravichandran and Nalini and the copy was handed over to the state Governor.

"The state Governor, even after five months, has not used the article 161 as per the Supreme Court directions for the release," the statement added.

He said the ruling party in the state should have put the condition of their release before accepting the BJP as alliance partners for the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections.
