Modi says govt taking steps to shield Indians from impact of Middle East crisis

Narendra Modi on Saturday said the government is taking all possible measures to ensure that the impact of the ongoing crisis in West Asia does not burden Indian citizens.

Speaking at an event, Modi noted that the global situation remains deeply concerning, with conflict continuing in the region for over a month. He highlighted that the tensions have triggered disruptions in the supply of essential commodities such as food, petrol, diesel, gas, and fertilizers across several countries.

The Prime Minister pointed out that India relies heavily on imports of crude oil and natural gas from the region, making the situation particularly significant for the country.

“The government is taking every possible step to ensure that the burden of this crisis does not fall on ordinary families and farmers,” Modi said.

His remarks come amid heightened tensions involving the United States and Israel, which have been conducting strikes on Iran since February 28. In response, Iran has launched retaliatory attacks across parts of the Middle East.

The escalating conflict has raised fresh concerns over global markets, energy supplies, and aviation operations across the region.
