Moral Policing: 22-year-old thrashed for wearing short dress in Pune

| | May 09, 2016, at 09:43 pm
Pune, May 9 (IBNS/Just Earth News) In an alleged case of 'moral-policing', a 22-year-old woman was dragged out of her car and thrashed by a gang of men, who were clearly offended by the length of her dress, took matters in their hands, reports said.

Mid Day quoted the victim as being said the attackers, "How can you wear such a short dress and roam with two males at such a time? In Pune, this is not allowed."

The incident took place on May 1, during the wee hours.

"At 5.30 am, while we were passing by the Lullanagar main signal, one car started driving parallel to our car. The window glasses were tinted, but a man rolled down the glass and peeped into our car," the victim said.

Speaking about the ordeal, she said that the accused followed her all the way home where they hit one of her friends who tried to intervene.

The victim  said that she feared that she might have been rape if her friends would not  intervened.

The victim also accused the police of unwillingness.

"I dialed 100, but no one answered. The cops arrived an hour later and filed an NC (non cognisable) complaint. After I got to know what an NC is, I visited the Kondhwa police station so many times. I finally managed to file a proper case on Sunday," she said.

Two people have been arrested so far.
