New Delhi/IBNS: Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Mukul Roy, who went to Delhi a day ago, has expressed his wish to return to the saffron camp.

Speaking to ABP Ananda, Roy, who is recovering from illness, said, "I am completely fit now. I couldn't work in the middle due to ailments but now I want to work for the BJP."

On why he wants to switch from West Bengal's ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) to BJP for the second time, Roy said, "One cannot fight against the TMC being in the TMC."

Roy, who is an MLA from the Krishnanagar Uttar constituency, landed in Delhi on Tuesday hours after he was claimed to be "untraceable" by his son Subhrangshu Roy.

Mukul Roy, who was spotted at the airport in a viral video, said he came to Delhi for some work.

The veteran politician, who was once the number two man of the TMC, said he had a telephonic conversation with Union Home Minister and BJP strongman Amit Shah and expressed his wish to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

"BJP will compete with the TMC in the upcoming panchayat elections and do well in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls," Roy added.

Roy, a former lieutenant of Mamata Banerjee, deserted the TMC and joined the BJP in 2017.

After the BJP faced defeat in the 2021 West Bengal assembly elections, Roy returned to the TMC.

After the demise of his wife Krishna Roy in 2021, Roy suffered dementia and underwent medical treatment.
