New Delhi, May 19 (IBNS): Narendra Modi, who is all set to become the next prime minister of India, on Monday thanked world leaders for greeting him after the BJP-led NDA posted a strong result at the Lok Sabha polls ensuring the formation of the government at the Centre under his leadership.

Modi said he told US president Barack Obama on further strengthening India-USA strategic partnership.

"In our conversation, @BarackObama & I talked about further strengthening India-USA strategic partnership that will help both nations," Modi tweeted.

Thanking New Zealand PM John Key, he said: "Thanks to New Zealand PM Mr. John Key for his letter containing his good wishes. We will make our ties with NZ much stronger."

Modi tweeted:"Had a telephonic conversation with @pmharper. Thanked him for his wishes & talked about our commitment to strengthen India-Canada relations."

He thanked Nepal President Ram Baran Yadav and said: "I thank President of Nepal Shri Ram Baran Yadav, Prime Minister Shri Sushil Koirala & former PM Shri Baburam Bhattarai for their wishes. Nepal is an old & deeply valued friend. We are committed to strengthening our relations with Nepal in various spheres."

Modi thanked other world leaders including  Fiji PM Voreqe Bainimarama,U N general secretary Ban Ki-moon, PM of Spain Mariano Rajoy and Japan PM Shinzo Abe among others.

Decimating the ruling Congress in a landslide victory, Narendra Modi led the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to win 285 seats out of 543 that made it the first party to cross the majority mark of 272 on its own in over 30 years.

Riding on an unprecedented wave of expectations coupled with widespread resentment against the ruling Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA), Modi almost singled-handedly bought the BJP-led National Deocratic Alliance (NDA) to a 340-seat-tally.

Sonia and Rahul Gandhi-led Congress party meanwhile was routed to just 44 seats, a huge 162 seats short of last time, ending Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s tenure with a humiliating blow.
