NC writes to J&K Guv offering support to PDP
Jammu, Jan 13 (IBNS): In a new twist, National Conference (NC) on Tuesday formally offered support to People's Democratic Party (PDP) to form government in Jammu and Kashmir, by writing a letter to state governor N N Vohra.
"@JKNC_ has written to Gov. Vohra sahib reiterating our offer of support to @jkpdp & asking him to call us before deciding assembly viability," NC leader Omar Abdullah tweeted.
The move is seen as an attempt by the NC to end the logjam in the state over government formation.
President's rule was imposed in Jammu and Kashmir on Jan 9 after President Pranab Mukherjee gave assent to the state's Governor's recommendation as Omar Abdullah stepped down as caretaker Chief Minister.
The Governor's rule imposed under section 92 of Jammu and Kashmir Constitution allows the Governor to proclaim it in case of constitutional machinery fails in the state.
Omar Abdullah, was asked to continue as caretaker Chief Minister on December 24 after his resignation following the defeat of his party, the National Conference in the Assembly elections which resulted in a hung situation.
Neither the PDP, which emerged as the single largest party with 28 seats, nor the BJP with 25 could get the absolute majority that requires winning 44 seats.
