Srinagar, Nov 22 (IBNS) New note currency of 2000 rupees was recovered from the Lashkar-e-Taiba militants who were killed in a fierce gunfight with security forces in North Kashmir Bandipora District, Police said.

According to reports, a brief gunfight erupted in Hajin village of Bandipora district early morning. The joint team of army’s 13 RR, CRPF and SOG  cordoned off the area and a fierce gun battle followed leading the killing of the militants.

Huge cache of arms and ammunition from the encounter site were recovered, adding militants had Rs 15,000 in cash in which two new notes of Rs 2000 and some other cash was also recovered from the site, said officials.

Yesterday, four masked and armed men burst into a bank in Kashmir and left with Rs. 13 lakh, largely in the old Rs. 500 and 1,000 notes.

The robbery took place at a branch of the state-run Jammu and Kashmir Bank in Malpora, 100 km from Srinagar.
