No confidence motion : 'Previous regimes made promises only but Modi govt delivered it,' says Nirmala Sitharaman

New Delhi/UNI: Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Thursday hit out at the previously ruled Central governments, saying that they had made promises only, but the present government headed by Narendra Modi have delivered on all the promises.

Speaking during the debate on the no-Confidence motion moved by the Opposition parties against the Modi government in the Lok Sabha, on the third day today, she said that the UPA government had destroyed development for almost an entire decade because there was corruption and cronyism, but BJP-led NDA government has been working on development.

Taking a dig at the opposition INDIA bloc, Sitharaman said it is very hard to understand that these alliance partners are fighting each other or collectively fighting against each other.

"If these alliances are together or fighting each other, In Delhi and Punjab, Congress and AAP are fighting against each other, in West Bengal, TMC, Congress, and Left are fighting against each other, in Kerala and Tripura, Left and Congress are fighting; and in Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, and Gujarat, AAP and Congress are fighting, this shows it is a fantastic alliance."

"What was the need to change the name of UPA," Sitharaman asked, and explained what the reason behind changing the name was. "They had to change the name of the UPA as it was reflecting nepotism, cronyism, and corruption in the UPA government," she added.

"The previous Central governments showed dreams to people only, but our government makes their dreams a reality," said Sitharaman.

While the Minister was speaking, several MPs from opposition parties staged a walkout from the lower house.

"Since 2014, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has improved our economic policy through 'Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas, and sabka prayas, following which we are growing the fastest path of recovery despite the COVID pandemic," Nirmala said.

"In 2013, India was included in the list of the five fragile economies of the world by Morgan Stanley, but today the same Morgan Stanley upgraded India and gave it a higher rating. Due to the economic policies of our government during the last nine years, we have seen economic development despite the COVID pandemic," the Minister said.
