‘Not necessary to humiliate me with arrest’: Pawan Khera to SC over remarks on Himanta Biswa Sarma’s wife
Guwahati/IBNS: Pawan Khera, who has sought anticipatory bail over his remarks on Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s wife, on Thursday told the Supreme Court of India that it was “not necessary to humiliate me with arrest,” media reports said.
Khera argued that if his anticipatory bail plea is rejected, the very purpose of pre-arrest protection would be defeated.
Singhvi’s sharp remarks in court
Senior advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi, appearing for Khera, launched a strong attack on Sarma, calling him a “Constitutional cowboy or a Constitutional Rambo”.
He added that such remarks would make B. R. Ambedkar “turn in his grave”.
Case linked to remarks on CM’s wife
The case stems from an April 4 press conference where Khera made allegations against Sarma and his wife Riniki Bhuyan Sharma.
Khera had claimed that Sharma held multiple passports and owned undisclosed foreign properties.
‘AI-generated fabrications’, says Sarma family
The Sarma family has denied the allegations, terming the documents “AI-generated fabrications”.
A complaint was subsequently filed with Guwahati Police, triggering the ongoing legal battle.
