Notice issued to Azam Khan

New Delhi, Apr 23 (IBNS): The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Wednesday issued a notice to Uttar Pradesh minister Azam Khan for reportedly making objectionable remarks against the poll body.

"Whereas, the Commission has received further reports/complaints  that instead of complying with the ECI'Order,  dated 11th April,2014  in right spirit, you made attempts to circumvent the said direetions  given  in the aforesaid order by making an objectionable remark about ECI during a TV interview aired on ABP News on 13.04.2014  and by getting your an objectionable speech read over by one of your party workers, in a recently  held election meeting dated 14th April,2014  of Sh. Mulayam  singh Yadav ;  (details may  be seen at Annexure  2 of this notice)," the ECI said in the notice.

"Whereas,  by making  statements which can be seen  at Annexure-2  of the notice, you have made totally baseless  and scurrilous afiegations  against Election  Commission of lndia, a constitutional authority  enjoined  upon by the mandate  to conduct  free, fair and transparent elections,  and also made statement  which has impact of creating mutual hatred  amongst different sections of society, religious as well tinguistic," the body said.

The Commission  has directed Khan  to explain his stand on Apr 25.

"Now, therefore, the commission  gives  you an opportunity  to explain your stand in making  the above  said statement  before 5 pm on 25th Aprir, 2014,  fairing which  the ECr shail take a decision without  further reference  to You," the ECI said.
