One JCO, five Assam Rifles jawans killed in Manipur ambush

Guwahati, May 22 (IBNS): At least six security personnel , including an officer of 29 Assam Rifles, were killed in an ambush suspected to be carried out by CorCom (Coordination Committee) militants in Manipur on Sunday, officials said.

 According to the reports, the incident took place between Hengshi and Tuiyang villages, around 15 km from the headquarter of 29 Assam Rifles at Joupi village in Chandel district in the north eastern Indian state at around 12-30 pm.

The militants fired targeting the security personnel team when they returned after inspecting a landslide scene in the locality.

A Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) and five jawans of the 29 Assam Rifles were killed in the ambush.

  The militants have taken  arms while escaping from the spot.

CorCom is an umbrella group in Manipur comprising seven militant groups.
