Only 800 farmers benefited from loan waiver scheme, admits Karnataka govt
Bengaluru, Dec 13 (IBNS): Months after announcing Rs. 44,000-crore loan waiver scheme, the Karnataka government has admitted that only 800 farmers have so far benefited from it, media reports said.
Cooperation minister Bandeppa Kashempur said this in the legislative Assembly.
Badeppa said the government was expecting 43 lakhs applications including the ones who have availed loans from cooperative banks.
The scheme was launched by Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy, who had promised loan waiver in his party Janata Dal (Secular)'s election manifesto, on July 5.
The state government is presently run by the Congress-JDS alliance, which was stuck after the Assembly polls which gave the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) highest number of seats but short of simple majority.
Congress president Rahul Gandhi had also earlier promised loan waiver in the state.
