Opposition leaders tear apart bill to'remove arrested PM, CMs and ministers', throw it towards Amit Shah

The Lok Sabha on Wednesday witnessed a chaotic scene when opposition members tore up copies of three bills, dealing with the Prime Minister and Chief Ministers arrested on serious charges for 30 days.

The bills that were introduced in the House were the Constitution (130th Amendment) Bill, the Government of Union Territories (Amendment) Bill, and the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation (Amendment) Bill.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah introduced the bills in the lower house, amid sloganeering by the opposition leaders.

According to reports, opposing the government, the leaders were seen throwing the torn copies of the bill towards Shah.

While the opposition MPs allege the bill is being brought in a hurry, Shah denied such a claim.

The bill will be sent to the joint parliamentary panel.

What is the bill about?

The bill will ensure the removal of elected representatives arrested or detained on serious criminal charges from office.

The proposed law will cover the Prime Minister, Union ministers, Chief Ministers, and ministers of Union Territories.

Besides this, two other bills- the Government of Union Territories (Amendment) Bill 2025, the Constitution (One Hundred And Thirtieth Amendment) Bill 2025, and the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation (Amendment) Bill 2025- could be moved to a parliamentary committee.
