"Pak still desperate in proxy war": Army chief

| | Jan 13, 2015, at 08:06 pm
New Delhi, Jan 13 (IBNS) Army chief General Dalbir Singh on Tuesday said Pakistan was still 'desperate' in continuing 'proxy war' in Jammu and Kashmir despite itself suffering from it.

"Pakistan is supporting proxy war in Jammu and Kashmir despite suffering casualties in its own country," he said while addressing his annual press conference here.

"Recent strike by terrorists indicate their desperation, also indicates that the camps that that there across the border are intact," he added.

It is because of 'active borders' that threats and challenges were growing, General Singh said.

He informed that  110 terrorists were neutralized in Jammu and Kashmir by Indian forces in 2014.

The army chief said the border with China was peaceful and the army was following the policy of constructive engagement.

"India-China army-to-army engagement has increased. Confidence building measures with China working... Focus today is northern border, there are large gaps in infrastructure along the northern border," he said.

General said 'concerted efforts' were being made to fill up gaps in weapons and ammunition.
