New Delhi/IBNS: Both Houses of Parliament were adjourned after the Opposition created a ruckus over the demands of into allegations of fraud against the Adani Group by American short-seller Hindenburg Research that triggered a massive fall in the stock prices of the conglomerate’s companies.

The opposition remained adamant on its demand and asked for an investigation by a parliamentary panel or a Supreme Court-appointed committee.

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla refused the requests and urged the Opposition "not to make unsubstantiated claims". In Rajya Sabha, too, Vice-President Jagdeep Dhankhar rejected the motions saying they were not in order.

Gautam Adani’s highly diversified business empire has lost more than $100 billion in value since the charges were made public last week, media reports said.

As many as nine Opposition parties filed notices for discussing the Adani stock crash in parliament.

They met on Thursday morning at to take on the central government during the ongoing Budget Session.

Leaders of over a dozen parties met in the chambers of the Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, Mallikarjun Kharge, including the Trinamool Congress, Aam Aadmi Party, Samajwadi Party, DMK, Janata Dal-United, and the Left.

"Keeping public interest in mind, we want a thorough probe into the Adani issue either by a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) or a Supreme Court-monitored panel. There should also be day-to-day reporting of the investigation on the issue," Kharge was quoted as saying by NDTV.

AAP MP Sanjay Singh told news agency ANI, "I have written a letter to PM (Prime Minister Narendra Modi), Enforcement Directorate, and the CBI demanding the confiscation of [Gautam] Adani's passport, or else If he also flees from the country like other industrialists and capitalists, then crores of people of this country will be left with nothing."
