PM Modi and other BJP top brass to attend Sonowal oath ceremony in Assam

| | May 24, 2016, at 07:36 pm
Guwahati/New Delhi, May 24 (IBNS) Prime minister Narendra Modi and top leaders of the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP), including BJP president Amit Shah, are expected to be present at Tuesday's swearing-in ceremony of Sarbananda Sonowal as the chief minister of Assam, media reported.
The swearing ceremony will be held at the Khanapara rally ground in Guwahati. Nearly one lakh people are expected to attend the programme.

Sonowal had led BJP to the party's first win to any north-eastern state assembly in the recently concluded elections.

In Assam, the BJP  won 86 seats in the 126-seat  Assembly by defeating the Congress, which managed to win only 24 seats.

Sealing the Indo-Bangaldesh border was one of the key issues that Sonowal brought forth during the election campaign.

In an interview to NDTV, Sonowal said that curbing illegal immigration and sealing the Indo-Bangladesh border will be his top priorities as he dons the mantle of chief minister.

He also added that bona-fide Indian citizens have nothing to fear and there will be no discrimination between people of different religions.
