PM Modi arrives in Malaysia: Modi welcomed with a grand ceremony in Kuala Lumpur

Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Malaysia on Saturday for a two-day visit, where he was warmly welcomed by his counterpart, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.

Upon arrival, Modi took to X, writing: “Deeply touched by the warm welcome extended by my friend, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim at the airport. I look forward to our conversations and to further strengthening the bonds of friendship between India and Malaysia.”

As part of his initial engagements, Modi attended a community programme in Kuala Lumpur. Sharing a photo with Anwar Ibrahim inside a car, Modi wrote: “PM Anwar Ibrahim and I are heading to the community programme in Kuala Lumpur.”

This marks Modi’s third visit to Malaysia since 2015.

According to a detailed note from the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), “In a special gesture, the Prime Minister on his arrival in Kuala Lumpur was warmly received by Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim along with Malaysian Minister of Human Resources Dato’ Sri Ramanan Ramakrishnan and Deputy Foreign Minister Dato’ Lukanisman bin Awang Sauni. This was followed by a colorful cultural welcome highlighting the shared heritage of both countries.”

On India-Malaysia relations, MEA noted: “The visit seeks to further strengthen the India-Malaysia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership established in 2024. It reflects India’s strong commitment to deepening India-Malaysia ties, a key pillar of our Act East Policy, Indo-Pacific vision, and Vision MAHASAGAR.”

In his remarks, Modi emphasized the historic and evolving ties between the two nations. He stated: “We will aim to deepen our defence and security ties, enhance our economic and innovation partnership, and expand our collaboration into new domains.”
