PM Modi expresses sadness over Girish Karnad's death
New Delhi, Jun 10 (IBNS): Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed his sadness over the demise of veteran playright and actor Girish Karnad.
Modi tweeted, "Girish Karnad will be remembered for his versatile acting across all mediums. He also spoke passionately on causes dear to him. His works will continue being popular in the years to come. Saddened by his demise. May his soul rest in peace."

Karnad, 81, died at his Bangalore residence on Monday.
A Rhodes Scholar, Girish Karnad was a recipient of the 1998 Jnanpith Award, the highest literary honour conferred in India.
For four decades Karnad has composed plays, often using history and mythology to tackle contemporary issues.
He has translated his plays into English and has received acclaim.
His plays have been translated into some Indian languages and directed by directors like Ebrahim Alkazi, B. V. Karanth, Alyque Padamsee, Prasanna, Arvind Gaur, Satyadev Dubey, Vijaya Mehta, Shyamanand Jalan, Amal Allana and Zafer Mohiuddin.
He was conferred Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan by the Government of India and won four Filmfare Awards, of which three are Filmfare Award for Best Director – Kannada and the fourth a Filmfare Best Screenplay Award.
Recently, he was seen in Bollywood movies like Tiger Zinda Hai, Ek Tha Tiger and 24.
The actor will be remembered for his performance in TV series Malgudi Days.
