PM Modi visits Chennai, to meet former CM Karunanidhi

Chennai, Nov 6 (IBNS): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday visited Chennai, where he will be attending two private functions alongside meeting former Chief Minister of the state, M Karunanidhi, media reports said.

According to reports by The New Indian Express, the Prime Minister will be attending the platinum jubilee celebrations of the leading Tamil daily ‘Daily Thanthi’, to be held at the Centenary Hall of Madras University, following which, he will attend the marriage of senior IAS officer T V Somanathan's daughter.

Keeping in view of the Prime Minister's visit, state police have beefed security.

The daily quoted a senior police officer as saying, "Under the supervision of city Police Commissioner A K Viswanathan, five Additional Commissioners, six Joint Commissioners, 43 Deputy Commissioners and 80 Assistant Commissioners are making security arrangements with a round-the-clock vigil."

The officer added that the area around Madras University has been cordoned off and traffic have been diverted.
