Guwahati, Jan 15 (IBNS): Poachers killed another one horned rhinoceros in Assam's Kaziranga National Park on Sunday night.

It is first poaching incident in the world heritage site in this year.

According to the reports, the incident took place at Daflang camp under Bagori forest range in the national park.

A top official of the park said that forest guards of the national park heard two gunshots near the Daflang forest camp at around 9-10 pm on Sunday night and reacted by firing six rounds in defence of the wild animals.

On Monday morning, the forest guards found carcass of a bullet injuries adult female rhino at the area.

The forest official said the poachers failed to take away the horn.

Poachers had killed 9 rhinos in the state last year including 6 in Kaziranga National Park.

In 2016, poachers killed 18 rhinos in Kaziranga.

Assam has lost over 200 rhinos which were poached in the state in past a decade.
