Post-poll violence continues unabated in rural Bengal: Suvendu Adhikari

| @indiablooms | Jul 14, 2023, at 05:42 pm

Kolkata/UNI: West Bengal Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari on Friday alleged that post-poll violence continued unabated in rural Bengal.

"Thousands of Opposition party candidates, party workers, and supporters have been left shelterless across the State as their houses are being attacked, put on fire, or they are being driven out of the villages due to the threat to their lives," Adhikari tweeted.

"BJP Gram Panchayat Candidate Soma Roy's house was set on fire in Amragori village in Amta Block in Howrah district around 2.30 am last night," he mentioned.

"Tapasi Das Burman, a BJP Zilla Parishad candidate from Sabang Block, Paschim Medinipur district, has no roof over her head now, and she and her family are desperately searching for shelter in the monsoon," Adhikari further alleged.

The BJP MLA from Nandigram informed that hundreds of safe houses have been made operational by the BJP across the State for sheltering hounded BJP candidates and their families.

Alleging that the BJP and other Opposition candidates are being tormented by the TMC goons for participating in the Panchayat elections, while the police conveniently look the other way, Adhikari questioned, "Is this Democracy? "

It may be mentioned that a four-member BJP fact-finding team, led by party MP Ravishankar Prasad, is now visiting the violence-affected areas of the state.

On Thursday, the team, along with State BJP President Sukanta Majumdar, called on Governor C V Ananda Bose and apprised him of the law and order situation in the state.

The team, after taking stock of the situation in North and South 24 Parganas, is going to North Bengal on Friday.
