New Delhi/IBNS: President Ram Nath Kovind on Tuesday appointed Justice Sharad Arvind Bobde as the next Chief Justice of India (CJI), media reports said.

Justice Bobde will take oath as the CJI on Nov 18.

The oath will be administered by President Kovind.

Several ministers of the Modi government are likely to be present at the oath-taking ceremony.

Justice Bobde has been appointed days after current CJI Ranjan Gogoi initiated the process of appointing Justice Bobde as his successor.

CJI Gogoi will retire on Nov 18.

The Supreme Court is likely to deliver the verdict on the politically-sensitive Ayodhya case before the CJI retires on Nov 17.
