Put UP under President's Rule: Mayawati
"A jungle raj (reign of the forest) is prevailing in UP. Every other day there are reports of rapes and riots. The law and order system has completely broken down. Only imposition of President's Rule can save us from this situation," said Mayawati.
The former UP chief minister also demanded a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the gangrape and murder of two Dalit sisters in Badaun district.
"There should a CBI probe into this shocking incident as the Akhilesh Yadav government is not at all serious about it," said Mayawati.
Two Dalit minor sisters were allegedly gangraped and then hanged from a tree at Katra village in Badaun on Wednesday.
She further hit out at the Samajwadi Party (SP) government for the power crisis in the state.
"Ever since the Samajwadi Party government has come to power there is a huge power shortage in the state. Akhilesh Yadav must give an explanation to the people," she said.
Post May 16, when the Lok Sabha election results were declared, the state is experiencing frequent power cuts that are lasting for over 10 hours a day.
Pertinently, in a major blow to the ruling Samajwadi Party, the BJP won 73 of 80 seats in Uttar Pradesh.
