Quick assessment study reveals Patna roads suffer from excessive plying of private vehicles

Patna, Dec 21 (TheBiharPost/IBNS): A recent study has found that roads in Patna, the capital of Bihar state, have been facing maximum pressures from private vehicles.

The study was conducted by Rites, an engineering consultancy company specialising in the field of transport infrastructure.

“The maximum pressures of Patna roads are because of private vehicles since most of the people use private vehicles, instead of public transport,” the Rites said in its study.

The company was asked for the quick assessment by the state Urban Development and Housing Department to study the feasibility of metro services in Patna, according to media reports.

It had suggested for wider roads and more over-brides among other measures to improve traffic in the city, reports said.

Patna Metro is a planned rapid transport system for the city of Patna and is expected to run on three routes by 2021. The project is estimated to cost Rs 11,545 crore (US$2 billion).
