New Delhi, Sept 21 (IBNS): New Delhi's crucial Race Course Road has been renamed as Lok Kalyan Marg.

The road assumes significance as the residence of the Prime Minister is located on it.

The address of the PM's residence, which was so far called 7 Race Course Road, will now read 7, Lok Kalyan Marg.

The announcement was made on Wednesday during a press conference attended by NDMC Chairman Naresh Kumar, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and BJP leader Meenakshi Lekhi.

Meenakshi Lekhi had earlier proposed to rename the street as ‘Ekatma Marg’.

She tweeted: "Congrats! After Ekatm marg msg received from across country to make it Lok Kalyan Marg, all objections met with. RCR now #LokKalyanMarg !!"
