Washington/UNI: George Abraham, a founding member of the Indian Overseas Congress (IOC) and the vice chairman of the American chapter, was honoured.

According to Indica news, Rahul Gandhi, the president of the Congress, presented Abraham with the Lifetime Achievement Award.

Abraham received the honour for his many years of dedication to the company. During a celebration in Queens, New York, Gandhi gave Abraham the medal during a recent trip to the country.

Sam Pitroda, the head of IOC Global, announced the prize and invited Gandhi to give the plaque honouring Abraham's dedication to the IOC.

"The award was a deserving honour for a person's vision, commitment, and labour of love. His wife, Lona Abraham, also worked for the company with him," the IOC said in a statement.

As a teenager in India, Abraham got involved with the party, and he helped form the IOC USA.

In a statement released by the IOC, Abraham said that his involvement with the Congress Party began in his school years.

He worked for the youth group "All Kerala Balajana Sakhyam" and rose to the position of state treasurer.

Before relocating to the US, he later worked for the Kerala Students Union (KSU).

Abraham also had a key role in establishing a foreign organisation to help the party.

His New York flat served as the location of the initial planning session for the IOC.

On June 25, 2001, Sonia Gandhi, a former leader of the All India Congress Committee, inaugurated the group.
